Existing site parameters such as major elevation differences posed unique opportunities in the design of this residence. This also produced a difficult design challenge because the only usable yard space was the side yard, so it actually had to function as both the front and back yard. Since everyone who enters the home walks through the yard, it is designed to be welcoming; yet able to be enjoyed like it was a private backyard. The use of a bridge over the pool allows the pool to be oriented parallel with the house making it longer and more useful. Also, the experience of walking across a bridge to get to the front door enables the family and visitors to enjoy the pool area every time they come to the home, while at the same time adding an aesthetically appealing feature. The bridge, along with the three cascading waterfalls made of moss boulders give the feel of being out in nature, while actually being located in the heart of the city. The outdoor area is full of lush landscaping and ample deck area for entertaining, allowing people to enjoy the space whether they are coming, leaving or staying.
